CBS Miami covers the Flower Route

With Valentine’s season in full swing, the LAN CARGO Colombia team received two reporters , Vicente Arenas and Doran Miles, from the TV channel CBS Miami, who covered the entire flower export process prior to their distribution in the U.S.

The journey started in Miami, where the two reporters boarded a flight to Bogota. Once in Colombia, they visited Passion Growers, the farm that produces 26% of all flowers transported by LAN CARGO’s affiliates. They had the opportunity to witness the production, harvest and preparation of flowers before delivery at the airport.

After the visit, the CBS Miami team arrived at the company’s facilities at El Dorado Airport in Bogota, where they were received by Pablo Canales, Executive Director of LAN CARGO Colombia. They toured the cold storage facilites and witnessed the loading and unloading operations.

This year, LAN CARGO Colombia had a very good season, fulfilling 100% of our customers’ needs during this period of increased demand. This means transporting 2.7 times more than what we transport during other months. We were able to maintain our position in the market and, most importantly, provide good service,” said Pablo Canales.

The two reporters then flew back to Miami, the flowers’ destination. Once at the airport, they watched the unloading of the aircraft, Customs’ screening processes and final delivery to customers.

During the tour, the crew witnessed the dynamics of operations during the four-week Valentine’s season rush. During the 2015 season, LAN CARGO’s affiliates transported 10,400 tons of fresh flowers in just four weeks, tripling weekly averages.
