Fast Air debuts a new storage in Santiago de Chile

As of Friday, April 21 Fast Air, the Santiago import warehouse belonging to the LATAM Group, will transfer its facilities to the new cargo sector in the airport. This change results from the expansion of the passenger terminal, which works will start at the current storehouse location during the first quarter of 2018.

“We are convinced that these changes will mean important benefits to our customers, and will obtain greater efficiencies and safety in the cargo operation”, indicated Leonardo Silva, Cargo Operations Manager of Carga LATAM Cargo.

The new warehouse will bring about improved operations and flow for the cargo customers of LATAM Group, which will allow a more dynamic and efficient service to be delivered. The main improvements are:

  • Increase of approximately 1,000 Rack positions, going from 3,200 to 4,193 positions intended for load storage.
  • Increase in the number of height positions, going from one fifth to one eighth level of rack inside the storehouse and its chambers.
  • Use of DECK platforms (roller beds) with a surface of 326 m2, which will allow for the simultanous depalletization of 6 elements.
  • Three new weighing scales in the internment zone: two for medium weight and one for big weight. This will allow for the simultaneous internment with the weights verified in all modules being available.
  • New storehouse for controlled temperature (2-8º C, exclusive for Pharma), increasing the temperature availability to 273 positions in four types of chambers: two of 2-8º C, one of 15-25º C, and the last one of -20º.
  • One commercial counter that will concentrate the three services that are currently delivered at different storehouse areas (invoicing, customer service and cargo delivery for smaller packages). This will enable customers to make all the procedures more quickly and easily.
  • The new facilities will allow 14 trucks to be simultaneously served, different from the 6 that were served in the previous operation. Moreover, three parking lots are added for high-tonnage trucks, or those with ramps, what will make it easy for the attention throughout the day, and not only in hours with a low vehicle flow.

“Our staff has been working strongly to carry out the improvements the new storehouse brings about, and to mitigate any kind of impact that the move to this new terminal may cause to the internment, delivery times or information to our customers”, ends Mario Jofré, Fast Air’s Head of Commercial Operations.
