Fraport and Lima airports transport humanitarian assistance to Peru via LATAM Cargo

Ceaseless rains have caused serious floods in various regions of Peru, leaving thousands of victims. This emergency has caused the Fraport and Lima airports to work together with the purpose of helping those who need it most.

Both airports acquired portable water filtration containers, known by the acronym PAUL (Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving), to send to Peru. Each container filtrates up to 1,200 liters of water a day, providing clean water to 400 persons a day. In this way, the 25 containers financed by both airports can filtrate approximately 30,000 liters of water a day, thus providing clean water to 10,000 victims of the floods in Peru. These containers can be easily used by the families themselves, and can be easily distributed to remote regions as their weight is not greater than 20 kilos.

The PAUL containers were developed at the Kassel University, in the German State of Hessen. Since 2010, they have been successfully sent to different places affected by humanitarian crises.

On March 29, the containers were shipped in Frankfurt in a LATAM Cargo’s aircraft heading for Lima, arriving at the destination the following day.
