LATAM Cargo activates a Solidarity Plane in view of the floods in Peru

LATAM Cargo’s Solidarity Plane has been an active participant in view of the recent natural catastrophes Peru went through. By means of this social responsibility program, which allocates available spaces in the airplanes for the transport of humanitarian aid, above 7 tons have been carried from Frankfurt and Miami to Lima in support of the victims of one of the strongest natural disasters this country has suffered in the last few decades.

The transported aid mainly consisted of water, medications, foodstuffs, animal feed, hygiene items, among other emergency aid items.

LATAM Cargo’ Supportive Airplane

The Supportive Airplane is activated in view of emergencies and natural catastrophes. Once the first request for donation is received, LATAM Cargo starts reviewing the routes and rooms available to activate the logistic chain that enables the assistance to reach those who need it.

LATAM Cargo receives no donation from private individuals; it only delivers the cargo transport service from airport to airport. This is why the requests for shipments should come from governmental, international entities, foundations or similar nonprofit entities which are operating as collection centers for donations from natural persons. Many of these entities are, in turn, associated with cargo agents who help them with the export and import procedures, thus safeguarding their donation nature.

They are also concerned with properly packing everything and delivering the cargo in perfect conditions, ready to be shipped.

The Solidarity Plane has been activated in previous occasions such as: during the floods that affected Chile’s northern region in 2015; the earthquake occurred in Ecuador in 2016; and the fires that affected Chile’s southern region early in 2017.
