LATAM Cargo Miami’s Environmental Management System successfully surpasses external audits

In 2015 the onshore operation of LATAM Cargo in Miami received the ISO 14001:2004 certification for its Environmental Management System (EMS).

This consists of a series of formal processes and practices that permit environmental impacts to be identified, controlled, managed and reduced in all its onshore operations. Based on a series of tools and actions that strengthen the measures to control and reduce environmental impacts, these standards promote, further, the continuous improvement of operational processes.

The EMS is assessed periodically to confirm its effectiveness. The last audit took place in the second semester of 2016, confirming a high level of compliance with the ISO 14001:2004 standards.

LATAM Cargo Miami’s EMS includes handling, ramp and maintenance hangar operations, among others. Moreover, it has detailed processes and practices in its operations, focused to reduce environmental impact and to increase operational efficiency. These are reviewed periodically and have defined goals, such as right disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous chemical wastes used in maintenance and cargo operations; right storage of chemicals; recycling of paper, cardboard and electronic equipment; energy and water saving; among others.

 LATAM Cargo Environmental Management System

LATAM Cargo’s Environmental Management System is designed to follow a common standard in all of the company’s onshore operations. Its objective is to identify and control the impacts on the environment, to ensure compliance with the current regulations and with the company’s Quality, Safety and Environment Policy.

Among its benefits is the saving of costs and materials thanks to reuse, clear indications for measuring the management of distinct processes according to environmental protocols, aside from the care and conservation of natural resources.
