LATAM Cargo Group joins the Smart Freight Centre to collaborate on finding sustainable solutions for the industry

November 20, 2024. LATAM Cargo Group announced its membership in the Smart Freight Centre (SFC). This strategic alliance reaffirms the company’s commitment to sustainability and the search for solutions that allow it to approach net-zero emissions by 2050.

As a member of SFC, the company will have access to a broad network of collaborators and a series of initiatives designed to accelerate the decarbonization of the logistics sector. The company will be able to actively participate in collaborative projects and share best practices with other leading companies in the field of sustainability.

“By joining the Smart Freight Centre, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability and collaboration. As a group, we have set ambitious goals to build a more sustainable future for the next generations. We believe that collaboration is key to addressing the challenges of climate change and this alliance is a fundamental step in that path,” said Cristina Oñate, Senior Manager of Sustainability and Product at LATAM Cargo.

The initiative is in line with the LATAM group’s sustainability strategy launched in 2021, and is divided into three fronts of action: Climate Change, Circular Economy and Shared Value. Under these pillars, the company defined a roadmap with which it would advance over the next 30 years with the objective of being an asset in the countries where it operates, generating economic, social and environmental value in each of them.

To meet its objectives, the LATAM group set a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, eliminating single-use plastics throughout its operations by 2023; and becoming a zero-waste-to-landfill group in 2027. Finally, it defined the availability of its connectivity capacity for the benefit of the region’s communities, under its Solidary Airplane program.
