Among the many services offered by LAN CARGO is the transportation of works of art and musical instruments. Beyond the shipment process, this service also requires coordination of all necessary resources to ensure the highest security standards are followed for every shipment. As part of LAN CARGO’s role as a socially responsible company, the company is committed to providing its support to international cultural exchange through art.
Last year, for example, the company played a leading role by transporting several shipments of valuable art and by sponsoring major cultural events.
Among the most important cultural events LAN CARGO supported in 2012:
Great Moderns
The “Great Moderns” exhibition from the Peggy Guggenheim collection in Venice was one of Chile’s outstanding cultural events during 2012.
The “Great Moderns” exhibition from the Peggy Guggenheim collection in Venice was one of Chile’s outstanding cultural events during 2012, with almost 170 works of art including paintings, sculptures, documents, and photographs. The event took place from October 31, 2012 through February 26, 2013, at the La Moneda Cultural Center, attracting more than 150,000 visitors. This was the first time this exhibit traveled to Latin America, and the second time it had left the Venierdei Leoni Palace in the Grand Canal in Venice. This group exhibition included works by Picasso, Dai, Kandinsky, Magritte, Duchamp, Pollock and Chilean artist Roberto Matta, among others.
LAN CARGO transported 83 works from Venice and New York to Santiago for this event, taking full advantage of its specialized knowledge and experience in the shipment of delicate cargo of this type.
Playing dreams
Another major cultural achievement in 2012 was the transportation of the 74 members of the Chilean National Youth Symphony Orchestra (OSNJ), and their equipment, on their first European.
In addition to the direct logistical support provided to this musical group to assure its safe travel to Europe, LAN CARGO also shipped the orchestra’s instruments. LAN CARGO transported this precious cargo –two and a half tons of delicate musical instruments- to and from Santiago de Chile and Frankfurt, Germany.

Another important contribution was the shipment of the “Public Works” exhibition, which includes the most emblematic and characteristic works of renowned anti-poet Nicanor Parra. This exhibit has been shown in various cities in Chile and other countries, including Santiago in 2001, the Telefónica Foundation in Madrid and Chile’s Palacio La Moneda Cultural Center in 2006 (the second most visited exhibition in Chile’s history, with approximately 5,000 visitors per day), and in Guadalajara, México in 2012. Since May 29, the exhibit is being shown in Madrid at the National Library of Spain beginning, and LAN CARGO played a key role in transporting the works to be displayed. The exhibition includes several of the artist’s most important works, chosen after a detailed selection process and bringing to light long – forgotten but key pieces that exemplify each of the stages in his artistic development. In addition, the display will include seven audiovisual stations with videos commissioned especially for this exhibit, including a montage of unpublished images and works by the artist, creating a retrospective of his life and work.
