LAN CARGO increases cargo operations from Montevideo and Asunción

Starting in July, LAN CARGO increased flight frequencies from Montevideo and Asunción to the city of Sao Paulo, in Brazil. In the case of Montevideo, flights are operated on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, allowing an additional 60 tons of cargo to be transported every week. For the Asunción-Sao Paulo route, flights are operated on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, increasing cargo capacity by 80 tons per week.

Cargo then lands at Guarulhos airport, located in the city of Sao Paulo. The airport is one of the most important hubs of the LATAM Airlines Group’s cargo unit — a connection point for several destinations around the world. This allows cargo to reach markets in different continents, including North America (Mexico, New York, Miami and Orlando), Europe (Madrid, Frankfurt, Paris, London and Milan) and South America (Santiago, Bogotá and Lima, among others). The same offer applies to cargo bound for Montevideo and Asunción.

This is an important step in the consolidation of our network and, undoubtedly, the result of a constant search for new logistic solutions for our customers. This kind of operation allows LAN CARGO to offer greater flexibility in the transport of all types of cargo,” Rodrigo Medel, LAN CARGO’s South America South Director.

Cargo is transported on an Airbus 330, a wide-body aircraft with a 20-ton capacity. “This is an important step in the consolidation of our network and, undoubtedly, the result of a constant search for new logistic solutions for our customers. This kind of operation allows LAN CARGO to offer greater flexibility in the transport of all types of cargo,” said Rodrigo Medel, LAN CARGO’s South America South Director.

This operation is a great opportunity for products exported by air — including meat, fruit and perishable pharmaceuticals, among others. These require fast connectivity, considering that cargo must connect to its final destination in a range of two to three hours”, Jorge Baccino, LAN CARGO Uruguay’s General Manager.

The frequency increase benefits both imported and exported freight, while also enabling the shipment of parcels over 150 kilograms and up to 20 tons of cargo per flight — avoiding having to split up cargo.

The increase in frequency is a fundamental and competitive tool for the development of long-term export strategies for meat, car parts, agricultural products, industrial goods and textiles. Additionally, it is an important contribution to fruit exporters, who until now had neither the connectivity nor the times they needed,” Juan Pablo González, General Manager Cargo Paraguay.

The operation is aligned with the company’s business model, based on the optimization of belly capacity on passenger aircraft while boosting the network with a fleet of dedicated freighters. This business model allows the company to capitalize on routes, adapt the operation to economic cycles and satisfy customers’ needs.

LAN CARGO and its affiliates operate 144 destinations in 26 countries, offering the broadest connectivity in the region. Its different hubs allow products to be transported between Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia.
